Today was an excellent day. If you have a super attitude, I suppose every day you are alive can be construed as an excellent day. But I guess I don’t have a super attitude, because I do have bad days. Today though, I am giving a gold star. And there are many reasons:
1. I have not written in a while and here’s why: I’ve been studying. A lot. Because I had a tax exam last night and a payroll exam this morning. They have been hovering threateningly over my head for weeks (yes, a better person might have been preparing for months, but I am not that person.)
But now, now they are finished. I got my grades back and both were good. It’ll be a month before I’m enrolled in another class. Meanwhile, freedom is mine, all mine! [Insert maniacal laughter here.] Because that’s the problem with school: free time is never really free. There is always something else you could be (should be) doing. I’m sure studying is good for building character or whatever, but I can always think of something else — maybe lots of something elses — that I’d rather be doing.
Right now, this very second, there is nothing else I should be doing with my time. I can do what I want. I don’t have to feel guilty for writing on here. I don’t have to feel guilty for reading fiction. I don’t have to feel guilty for wrapping my Christmas presents. Brilliant!
2. I’ve mentioned before that my primary dealings in my job are with Americans. Well today my gal Carol in San Francisco came through and sent me some lovely almond toffee stuff as a holiday thank you for being the wonderful thing that I am. I am feeling the love for my San Francisco connection now, let me tell you.
3. I got an unexpected Christmas bonus at work. Unexpected cash = happy times.
4. The Love of My Life took me out to my favourite Thai restaurant in Vancouver to celebrate finishing my exams. Hot date – check, fabulous food – check, finished exams – double check!
Oh yeah, this was a great day. Happiness is.
